Express Entry -
Federal Skilled Trades Program
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is one of the three federal economic immigration programs under the Express Entry system used by IRCC to manage applications for permanent residency from skilled foreign workers.
To be eligible for Express Entry - FST, you must meet the following requirements:
-
You must have at least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
-
You must have an offer of full-time employment from a Canadian employer for a period of at least one year OR a Certificate of Qualification from a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
-
You must meet the language proficiency requirements in either English (IELTS general test) or French, as set by the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC).
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can create an Express Entry profile and enter the pool of candidates. IRCC uses a point-based system to rank candidates in the pool, called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS awards points based on factors such as age, language proficiency, education, work experience, and other factors.
The highest-ranking candidates in the pool are then invited to apply for permanent residency through regular Express Entry draws. If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you will have 60 days to submit your application for permanent residency.
Overall, the FSTP is a great option for skilled foreign workers in trade occupations who wish to apply for permanent residency in Canada and meet the minimum eligibility criteria.
